2010 Kingsburg Dala Horse Trot Photographs

Opening with an electric guitar version of “The Star Spangled Banner” this years Kingsburg Swedish Festival Dala Horse Trot was held under much better conditions compared to the year prior. This years Dala Horse Trot competitors were blessed with a run held within the city limits and under mostly shaded streets.
Photographs of many finishing their race, 2 k walk, 2k run, or 10k run can be found here.
(Please note that photographs are sorted in the order of completion of the race.)
I attended again this year as an observer and took …

CVC Cavaliers vs. Undefeated Kingsburg Vikings

The Central Valley Christian Cavaliers took to the field attempting to upset the undefeated Kingsburg Vikings this week, however with their amazing quarterback Tyler Bray, great receivers, and heavy line the Cavaliers were only able to slow their defeat. The Cavaliers, with players playing both directions, did a great job coming together as a team to hold the Vikings throughout the game.

Long Hot Summers and Staying Cool

The long hot summers here in California’s Central Valley prompt all residents to find a reprieve from the almost suffocating summer heat; while their are many options to keep cool some of the more local options often offer the fastest relief. Local parks don’t often bring with them the coolness of water so it is for that reason that the local pools, rivers, lakes and water parks become much more popular.
During the past weekend I stayed cool in the Kings River, a river local to my home, the cool 65-70 …

Central Valley Farmers Markets

It is at the farmers markets held throughout the many California Central Valley towns that the participants can find many different and wonderful types of produce. Fresno, Visalia, Reedley, Kingsburg, and Hanford all participate. Many of the produce items available at farmers markets can be seen in the photographs that I have taken while shopping for my farm grown produce.
Many people don’t understand how wonderful fresh produce can be, fresh right from the farm into my bag to take home and eat. A peach ripened on the tree is much …

WISP (Wireless Internet Service Provider)
Living in the country side and being a digital photographer don’t always go together, though the country side can offer needed space and quiet but also offers some unique challenges, until you have lived in the countryside you may not fully understand. Since moving to the countryside (outside Reedley, Kingsburg, Dinuba and Visalia) just over 2 years ago, I have been in search of good internet. Having been spoiled by the break-neck speeds of the internet offered in major metropolitan area’s I knew that dial-up internet …

River Valley Berry Farm Store

Planting berries in the rich soil of the Central Valley was once an impossibility with the oppressive summer heat quickly bearing down on the valley each summer. However advancement in horticultural practices have yielded berry varieties that with some care can be grown in the early spring through the start of the hot summer months of the year. While the heat of the summer days allows sugar full berries it can often ruin them before they are picked, packed and shipped. Just up the street from where I live is …

Lightning/Thunder Storm

It’s not often that the Visalia area is rocked by a thunderstorm and it is even less often that I can make myself available to photograph the lighting. With the storm putting out lighting at a rate that I have long since only remembered I spent the better part of the evening behind the camera I came away with about 10 usable images from the thunderstorm that passed through this evening. Please enjoy them.

Memorial Day 2009

photograph above taken at the Kingsburg, Ca cemetery (quite possibly the best decorated small town cemetery I visited this Memorial Day)

Though people view Memorial day as the start of summer it is a day that may be forgotten if we don’t put forth the effort to remember. In Gardens of Stone throughout the world today under the heavy weight of sorrow never so long forgotten, half staff flags and playing of taps our Citizens of the United States who have loved ones who served in the military gathered together to …
